The last couple of weeks have brought some beautiful spring days to the north of England. The air has been filled with birdsong and the sound of the first bees. Daffodils are out in their glory in the villages, blue-tits are busy in our nesting box, and young lambs are taking their first unsteady steps. How appropriate that in a couple of weeks we will celebrate Easter and resurrection life, when everything in creation is brimming with life! Jesus said to him (Nicodemus), "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. [John 14:6 NKJV] I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly. [John 10:10 NKJV] Therefore, if anyone [is] in Christ, [he is] a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. [2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV] WHAT'S IN AN ACORN?The view from my window will shortly be transformed by trees and hedgerows in full leaf, and emerging seedlings erupting from the earth. It's a miracle of design that written into something as small as an acorn is the potential to become a mighty oak. The acorn has to go through a process to fulfil its destiny, but the potential is there from the start. I wonder what potential is written into your life by the One who designed you? You shall be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendour. [Isaiah 61:3] For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. [Ephesians 2:10] This is the destiny of those whom Jesus saves, heals and sets free [Isaiah 61, Luke 4:18-19]! Amazingly, it seems we were chosen to 'display His splendour'; now that's something to ponder...
