And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
[Philippians 4:10 NASB] Children of rich parents have a certain sort of 'rest' because they know their parents have the ability to extricate them from many difficulties, and smooth their way generally.
How much more can we, the children of God, rest in His amazing promise of provision for us... |
RESTING IN THE FINISHED WORK OF GODBiblical rest is about resting in the finished work of God. The Lord’s last work of creation was to make man. Then He rested. Man’s first day, therefore, was a day of rest—rest in the finished work of God.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK…
How does God provide for our needs? How can I live a fruitful life? HAVE YOU GOT A QUESTION? |
When Jesus died on the cross, He dealt with every curse that had fallen on mankind, in order to return us to that original design. In the Garden of Gethsemane, we read He sweated great drops of blood, as He wrestled with the labour that lay ahead of Him. That shed blood frees us from the yoke of slavery, from having to wrest our living from an unreceptive ground, and releases to us the unlimited resources of Heaven, the provision of God the Father.
Jesus also bled when the crown of thorns was rammed upon His head. Those terrible spikes recall the thorns and thistles which the ground would yield for Adam and his race [Genesis 3:17-19].

To rest involves humility: the giving up of toil, of control and giving ourselves into His hands. To rest depends on faith: choosing to trust and rely on the finished work of the Cross. Entering His rest changes everything. The book of Hebrews instructs us to labour to enter that truth [Hebrews 4:11]—to wrestle with the concept, like a dog with a bone, until we really get it.
And so we enter God’s rest, with the understanding that Jesus has opened the way for us to find in the Father everything we need for every eventuality—just like He did. We see in Jesus, a man at rest, a man who lived completely aware of the provision of the Father at all times. www.rhythmsofgraceuk.org/gods-promise-of-provision Click to Tweet |
