3. CHOOSING THE SEARCHLIGHT

A SEASON OF PREPARATION

When spring’s arrival seems to falter, on ear-aching, throat-grazing, finger-numbing bitterly cold days, the countryside seems frozen to the very core. Everything appears stripped bare to the searching eye—all the imperfections displayed in starkness. There’s no gentling on the eye.

​Makes me think of Psalm 139:1-4:

You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.
​

And Psalm 51: 6-7

Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 

Truth is a big deal. If truth sets us free [John 8:32], then the lies we believe keep us bound—and our marriages, families and communities. Perhaps this could be our number one prayer in this time of preparation: Lord, show me any area in me which does not shine with Truth.

If we are willing, the Holy Spirit will show us the underlying issues in our lives, the lies which imprison us—not to beat us up and make us feel condemned, but to set us free.

​And just as when the sun shines on bare branches, or the clear blue sky shows them up in relief, we are struck with their beauty, so it will be with us.

THIS WEEK'S GRACE RHYTHM

Ask the Lord to show you any areas in your life or relationships where His truth does not reign.
