7. A CHRISTMAS TREE PRAYER

THIS SERIES: CHRISTMAS TREE DIARIES

As promised, instead of the Christmas Tree meditations published last week, here is an alternative Christmas Tree Prayer.

First collect some props. The items in capitals, are suggestions for decorations to hang on the tree, to prophetically symbolise the focus of that section. These are based on ones that I use, please substitute alternatives that work for you, or leave out altogether.

Read the prayer through first, to familiarise yourself with its content. Then, before you begin, take time to centre down and fix your heart on the Lord.

Lord, I thank you for this tree.
This tree is my prophetic declaration in the heavenly places.

CREATOR
I believe You are the Creator of Heaven and earth (CHRISTMAS TREE & DECORATIVE STARS), and in You all things hold together. I believe the work of Your hands expresses Your character, and that this created world is filled with Your glory (LIGHTS).
And this tree is a reminder that we live in a fallen world, a broken world, where Satan and the Powers of Darkness hold sway, a world where mankind has turned away from the living God and chosen an independent course.

SOVEREIGN
But this is my declaration that You alone are Sovereign, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords (CROWN). It all belongs to You, and every knee must bow before You. And nothing will ever thwart Your purposes.
And I choose You; I choose Your ways; Your wisdom. I lay down my independence and choose Your perfect plan for my life (PAPER SCROLL).

MESSIAH
Not only are You Creator and Sovereign, as I dress this tree in its celebratory clothes I declare that You are also Saviour. I declare that the Messiah has come (FELT ‘ICHTHUS’), and that creation shouts for joy, and the trees of the field are clapping their hands! The Messiah has come and His Kingdom has invaded earth.

I declare Emmanuel has come amongst us. God Himself has come to meet us where we are (NATIVITY ORNAMENT). The Lord Jesus has come to save every person, young and old, rich and poor, from every nation (PERUVIAN NATIVITY).

A ruler has risen out of Jacob (STAR), His Kingdom has invaded earth, and there will be no end to the increase of His government and peace. And a shepherd has come to gather his sheep into His arms; into His protective love (CROOK/ CANDY CANE/ MODEL SHEPHERD).

This tree celebrates the Messiah: the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, the oppressed are delivered; and the broken are mended.

He has come with an anointing to break down walls (SWORD); has opened up the prison gates (KEY), and announced the time of God’s favour (TRUMPET/BELL).

This tree is also a prophetic picture of the Messiah’s ‘Kingdom tree’ in His parable, which from small beginnings is right now filling the whole earth. Under its branches is a place of protection and rest—a place of the abundant provision of the Father (JUST-FOR JOY ORNAMENTS).

SAVIOUR
And this is my declaration of faith in another tree: the Cross of Christ (CROSS); and the event which changed the course of history forever. In His broken body, the Lord Jesus took every sin, every sickness, every bit of brokenness, and the wrath of God was unleashed on all these things which have marred His beautiful world. And when He cried ‘It is finished!’, every demonic power, every curse, every negative force was utterly defeated.

And His blood was poured out (RUBY BAUBLES) so that we could be forgiven, cleansed and healed. His blood marks us, like the blood on the lintels before the exodus, so that we are safe in His hands; it ushers us into the very throne-room of God, and it declares that we are qualified for every Covenant blessing.

LIFE-GIVER
And this tree is my declaration of faith in the God who brings life. Evergreen, and pointing to Heaven; it speaks of the gift of new life, eternal life. Death was unable to hold the Lord Jesus; He is the Resurrection and the Life (BUTTERFLY). And I am a new creation, the old has passed away; and by faith in the blood of the lamb’ I am qualified to eat from the Tree of Life.

HOLY SPIRIT
God Himself has come and filled me to overflowing with His life through the Holy Spirit (DOVE). Because He lives in me, I can never be away from His presence. And He has showered on me blessing upon blessing (MINI GIFT BOXES & JUST-FOR-JOY ORNAMENTS).

And lastly, this tree is my declaration that He has called me to be fruitful; and has covenanted to prosper my way. The Holy Spirit has been given to me overflow to a broken world with joy (ICE SKATES), generosity (FIGURES CARRYING GIFTS), love (HEARTS), peace (DOVE), healing (MINI TREES), and an invitation to the Wedding Feast (GOLDEN BOWS). I have been called to partner with the Lord Jesus, and the Hosts of Heaven (ANGELS/ WOODEN SOLDIERS) to see His will done on earth as it is in heaven.
