it doesn't have to be complicated:
A picnic, a barbeque, a special meal?
A festival food, a decoration?
Maybe you could do one thing to create a new family tradition?
This year I made biscuits.....
125g butter, softened
75g caster sugar
few drops vanilla essence
150g plain flour
Beat butter & sugar together, until creamy & add vanilla essence.
Sieve flour, and mix into creamed butter with a wooden spoon to make a dough & knead.
Cut into circles and place well apart on a greased baking tray.
Bake in centre of a medium oven (350F, 180C, Gas 4) for 10-12 minutes, until golden & crisp, then sprinkle with caster sugar.
Cut out a dove shape* from half the biscuits, while still hot,
& leave to cool on a wire rack.
Beat together butter, cocoa, icing sugar & egg yolk
(or omit the cocoa and add an alternative flavour)
to make a butter cream & use to sandwich biscuits together,
one dove- centred, and one plain, just before serving.
