Red Kites have become prolific in our area after a breeding programme reintroduced them several years ago. These large birds of prey are wonderful to watch as they hover majestically overhead, their powerful wings (1.5m across) riding the air currents.
The eagle opposite, sadly, wasn't in its natural habitat, flying free, but tethered for a falconry display. (Although I believe it is regularly taken out to the moors to fly.)
However, watching as it spread its mighty wings, and thinking of the Red Kites I see every day, I was reminded of some favourite Bible verses:
and brought you to myself.
"Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in Him, for He shields him all day long,
and the one the LORD loves rests between His shoulders."
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty...
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
[Psalm 91:1,4 ]
