Rest and inner peace: building a solid foundation
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY 'REST'?
In common understanding, rest is the freedom from exertion, action or movement, and involves leisure, relaxation, and sleep. We have whole industries devoted to promoting the benefits of these elements, yet the rest that comes from internal tranquillity often remains elusive, and it is this rest that we need if we are to deal with the stress and anxieties of modern western living.
A PERMANENT SOLUTION
If we want a permanent solution to our stress-filled lives, rather than a sticking plaster, we need to dig deep....
The media is full of advice about dealing with stress, and while many of these suggestions are useful, they often don't deal with the underlying causes. If we truly want to achieve a permanent state of rest, we need to build a proper foundation.
Foundation: The solid ground or base on which a building rests, the lowest part of a building usually below ground level.
Just as due care and attention must be paid to the foundations when building a house, so we must pay attention to the important truths which underpin a life of rest. These truths give shape & meaning to everything else on the site, so please take time to reflect on, & absorb the content in this section - even if it is familiar territory – you may come across something life-changing!
