CHRISTMAS IS COMING...
The last couple of posts have included extracts from my book Let the Trees Rejoice!, an exploration of how one of the traditional ‘must haves’ of Christmas can be a beautiful tool for meditation and prayer.
As well as helping us to reflect on important spiritual truths, (see last post), our Christmas trees can also be a powerful means of prophetic declaration.
Prophecy can be about fore-telling the future – telling events before they have happened; it can also be forth-telling – expressing the heart of God in a given situation. In both cases, if something is truly prophetic it takes a spiritual reality and expresses it in words, images or actions, and by faith releases that reality in the physical, material world.
When Jesus came to earth, He brought his Kingdom with Him. Humanity was to be delivered from the Kingdom of Darkness and this liberation would extend to the whole earth, making all creation rejoice. The Bible gives a graphic prophetic picture of that celebration:
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn-bush will grow the pine tree,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign,
which will not be destroyed.
